Forged Pressure Seal Globe Valves provide reliable shut-off and precise throttling service in extreme high-pressure and high-temperature steam, water, and process fluid applications. Featuring a forged body structure and a pressure-activated internal sealing design, these valves turn fluid operating pressure into sealing force to eliminate external body-bonnet leakage risks while reducing total installed weight compared to conventional bolted-bonnet valves.

Key Features

Self-Tightening Sealing Mechanism: Cavity pressure acts directly against the pressure seal ring, continuously increasing joint integrity as system line pressure rises.

Homogeneous Forged Structure: Forged carbon, alloy, and stainless steel bodies eliminate internal voids, porosity, and structural grain boundaries commonly found in cast materials.

Hardfaced Seating Surfaces: Cobalt-chromium alloy overlay on the disc and integral body seat resists high-differential-pressure erosion, seat wiping, and wire-drawing.

Guided Disc Assembly: Fully guided disc configuration maintains precise concentric alignment with the seat ring, eliminating stem bending forces and seat scoring during continuous throttling.

Low-Emission Packing System: Die-formed flexible graphite packing sets with anti-extrusion braided rings ensure long-term fugitive emissions control per stringent industrial environmental standards.

Design & Construction

Internal Pressure Seal Bonnet Assembly: Utilizes a segmented retaining ring, thrust ring, metallic or flexible graphite pressure seal ring, and bonnet sleeve to maintain joint compression under severe thermal transient conditions.

Load-Bearing Thrust Structure: Segmented thrust rings absorb axial pressure forces exerted on the bonnet, eliminating the need for heavy external bonnet flange studs.

Non-Rotating Linear Stem: ACME thread design with ground and polished stem surfaces reduces stem drive torque and prevents torsional wear on the packing set.

Integral Top Backseat: Precision-machined back seating surface provides positive stem sealing to protect packing sets when the valve is in the fully open position.

Working Principle

Flow control occurs via a linear stem driving a hardfaced disc perpendicularly toward a stationary seat. Clockwise rotation of the stem pushes the disc downward into the fluid stream to establish tight seat closure. Internal line pressure pushes upward against the floating bonnet, driving the metallic pressure seal ring against the tapered body wall and thrust ring. Higher system line pressure results in higher seal compression, creating a leak-free seal without requiring external tightening torque.

Step 3: Define line end connection type (Socket Weld, Butt Weld with pipe schedule specification, or Flanged).

Step 4: Choose body pattern: Straight T-pattern for general isolation service or Y-pattern for throttling applications requiring reduced flow resistance.

Step 5: Determine drive requirement (Manual Handwheel, Impact Handwheel, Bevel Gearbox, or Actuator Mounting Kit).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the primary operational advantage of a pressure seal bonnet compared to a bolted bonnet?

A: A bolted bonnet uses external studs to compress a joint gasket, which requires heavier bolting and thicker body flanges as system pressure increases. A pressure seal bonnet turns internal line pressure into a sealing force, compressing the internal seal ring against the valve body wall. This creates a tighter seal at higher working pressures while significantly reducing valve size and total weight.

Q: Why are forged steel bodies specified instead of cast bodies for severe service steam applications?

A: Forging refines the internal metal grain structure, eliminating porosity, pinholes, and internal shrinkage cavities that can occur in castings. This provides higher mechanical strength, better resistance to thermal fatigue, and superior structural integrity under severe pressure variations.

Q: Can this globe valve design be utilized for flow throttling?

A: Yes. Globe valves are fundamentally designed for throttling control. Hardfaced Cobalt-Chromium sealing surfaces combined with a fully guided disc prevent erosion, seat abrasion, and vibration damage during prolonged partial-open service under high differential pressures.

Q: What testing documentation accompanies each valve shipment?

A: Every order ships with EN 10204 Type 3.1 certification. This includes raw material chemical composition, mechanical test results, heat treatment charts, hydrostatic shell test reports, seat leakage test reports, and non-destructive test results.

Q: What end connections are available for small-bore high-pressure piping?

A: Socket Weld ends per ASME B16.11 are standard for sizes up to 2 Inches across Class 900 to Class 4500 pressure ratings. Butt Weld ends per ASME B16.25 are supplied for larger pipe sizes or specific piping schedule requirements.
